ICG and Teras launch Templus, First Regional Data Center Platform in Southern Europe

Madrid, May 22, 2024 – ICG, an alternative global asset manager, and Teras Capital (“Teras”), an investment platform, led by successful entrepreneurs in the telecommunications sector, today announced the launch of Templus (“the platform”). Templus is Southern Europe’s first state-of-the-art, sustainable, regional Data Center platform. A new business model based on proximity to end customers, security, and the highest standards of energy efficiency. The company’s goal is to become the leader in the colocation sector in Southern Europe, with a network of more than 20 Data Centers.

Templus is led by Nacho Velilla, former Global VP and Managing Director of Spain for Equinix and former president and co-founder of Spain DC, the Spanish Association of Data Centers, with the support of a team of professionals with a long history in the digital infrastructure sector. The platform starts its activity with five operational Data Centers, including the locations of Madrid, Malaga, and Seville, and with an installed capacity of 15MW. The company’s presentation took place at DCD>Connect Madrid 2024, one of the main events in the Data Center industry.

Templus is positioned as a strategic partner thanks to three pillars that differentiate it from other Data Center operators dedicated to colocation: proximity, security, and sustainability/efficiency. Proximity, which allows you to reduce latency by having Data Centers near where data is generated and used. Secondly, Templus stands out for providing an infrastructure with the highest security standards and with a focus on the interconnection and development of regional and global business ecosystems. Direct connections enable more secure applications and services because it reduces the amount of sensitive data transmitted, limits the volume of data stored in individual locations, and decreases vulnerabilities in a wider network.

Finally, Templus also stands out for its sustainability and efficiency. The acquisition, development and construction of state-of-the-art facilities and services allow it to facilitate a responsible digital transformation, where the environmental impact is minimized by using 100% renewable energies with the best energy indicators on the market. In this regard, the company has an ambitious ESG criteria plan that confirms its commitment to the 2030 agenda and to the best PUE and WUE levels on the market.

Nacho Velilla, CEO of Templus: “What we are looking for is to democratize data. The proximity of the data facilitates the digitization process. These facilities should not only be provided by companies that are located near large national or European hubs, but any company should also have the same digital opportunities regardless of where they operate. That is the main objective of Templus, to bring data closer to people and companies rather than making users come to the data. Ultimately, if we can keep information closer to the users who need it, we will be more efficient, faster and safer.”
