Pablo Ávila

He began his professional career in the Swiss cement group Holcim as a commodity trader specialising in solid fuels (coal and petroleum coke). Covering a wide geographical area (Europe, Mediterranean, North America and Latin America), he developed a strong commercial and international profile.

Holcim moves him from Madrid to Singapore where he expands its commodities portfolio and geographic area, being directly responsible for trading in the Philippines, Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand, the Pacific Islands and the Indian Ocean Islands as far as Madagascar. Here he stands out for his business development capacity, closing the largest cement contract to date in the Indian Ocean, and for implementing a new tenders system that doubled Holcim’s trading flows in Australia.

Holcim sponsors his EMBA from the Kellogg School of Management (Hong Kong campus), and promotes him to Executive Assistant to the President Asia. This position is used by Holcim to develop young talent in order to position them for senior positions within the Group.

Chosen to create a new business for Holcim based on industrial franchising of cement companies. Sets up a new global division of the Group from scratch, closing a first contract in Japan that guarantees a positive cash flow for five years, and signs partnership agreements in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Peru and Guatemala.

He actively collaborates with the World Economic Forum in Geneva, participating in market reports and forming part of the Forum’s network of experts.
